Theme: Sentences (Study)
A sentence is a group of words with a complete idea. It starts with a capital letter and it could end with a period, exclamation mark or question mark.
A sentence has a subject or predicate.
*** Every complete sentence contains two parts: a subject and a predicate. The subject is what (or whom) the sentence is about, while the predicate tells something about the subject.
Types of sentences:
1. Exclamatory: express feelings.
Ex. Good morning!
2. Interrogative: Makes a question.
Ex. Who are you?
3. Imperative: Gives a command.
Ex. Close the window
4. Declarative or simple sentence: makes a statement and has just one clause.
Ex. I live in Morovis.
5. Complex sentence: has an independent clause and at least one dependent clause.
Ex. When you are in school, everybody knows who you are.
6. Compound Sentence: has at least two independent clauses.
Ex. I really want to go to work, but I'm too sick.
7. Run-on-Sentence: occurs when two or more independent clauses are not joined correctly.
Ex. I have to go to the store I need to buy milk.
